The polarizing Nigerian artist, Speed Darlington, has publicly demanded President Tinubu overhaul the nation’s police system.

Through a social media clip posted on August 23, Darlington emphasized that economic expansion alone shouldn’t define Tinubu’s presidency, stressing the crucial need for human rights protections.

“Mr. President, regardless of your reelection prospects, strive to leave Nigeria better than you found it. Governance transcends fiscal metrics!”

“Leadership isn’t solely about economic indicators. Nigerians from all walks are voicing discontent—even your own ethnic group has grievances.

“As an Igbo man, my counsel is this: true legacy lies in police restructuring. Transform this institution.

“The Nigerian police operates as an oppressive entity where rights violations have become routine protocol.

“Before your term concludes, urgently address your Yoruba kinsman—the Inspector General of Police.

“Arrest-first, investigate-later policing constitutes fundamental rights abuse. This colonial-era practice must end.”

Sharing his personal ordeal, the musician revealed: “Despite judicial orders for my release, FID detained me illegally for 60 days.

“Our statutes mandate maximum 28-day investigative periods. Why was I held twice as long? Simply because they wield unchecked power.”
