Victor Boniface

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface once had a brief interaction with José Mourinho, the renowned former coach of Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Inter Milan.

This exchange occurred ahead of AS Roma’s crushing 6-1 loss to Norwegian club Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Conference League group stage on October 21, 2021.

Boniface, who played for Bodo/Glimt before moving to Bayer Leverkusen, described the extreme cold conditions in the small coastal city as tough for players.

In an interview with The CultureLeaguePodcast, Boniface recalled, “Norway is one of the coldest places I’ve played in. Bodø/Glimt’s location, right by the sea, made it even harsher. The freezing temperatures were a constant challenge.”

He added, “Mourinho walked onto the pitch, filmed the conditions on his phone, and shared it online with the caption: ‘This is the situation, we’re about to play, very cold.’ I commented on his post at the time, not knowing where my career would take me. I joked, ‘You haven’t seen anything yet.’”

The Super Eagles striker missed the match due to recovery from a cruciate ligament injury.
