Ifunanya Nwangene

Paschal Nworgu, the closest confidant of the late gospel singer Ifunanya Nwangene, has shared an emotional farewell message after her tragic passing from a venomous snake bite.

The incident occurred in Ifunanya’s Abuja residence when a serpent unexpectedly entered her living space, fatally striking her on Sunday, February 1.

Through a deeply personal Facebook post, Paschal reflected on their seven-year friendship, disclosing that he held her in his final moments. He also published the chilling text she sent him immediately after the attack.

His tribute read: ”Never did I imagine our journey would end this way, Ifunanya Nwangene. Just last year, we kept celebrating our approaching seven-year milestone.

“Our paths first crossed on January 27, 2019, during Hymnodia’s inaugural season auditions in Ikeja. From that instant, our connection was extraordinary. Since late 2025, I’d constantly remind you about our impending friendship anniversary, and we’d relive memories of that fateful meeting where we harmonized effortlessly. I persuaded you to complete your NYSC in Abuja rather than Port Harcourt, promising your exceptional vocal talent would flourish here. My prediction proved true—you became Nigeria’s most celebrated soprano.

“Just as your star began rising, fate cruelly intervened. When you confided in September 2024 about deepening your spiritual journey, I urged you to incorporate more sacred music. That decision transformed your artistry—your heavenly voice brought countless souls to faith. From your first devotional post (which I helped craft) to last year’s Lenten hymn series and the Champions League anthem, you consistently sought my input before sharing any content.

“We shared countless dreams—both individual and collaborative. No one matched our musical synergy. You departed with 2026’s ambitions unfulfilled. The agony of watching life fade from you in my embrace remains unbearable. Even after medical professionals ceased resuscitation efforts, I demanded they recheck—your complexion still glowed despite discolored lips. My desperate prayers, countless Hail Marys, went unanswered. For once, you didn’t respond to my pleas.

“Knowing you dwell among angels offers slight comfort. Your virtuous existence touched multitudes. Nigeria lost a cultural gem. I championed your success selflessly because my devotion knew no bounds. Your unwavering loyalty—defending me, sacrificing for me—was humbling. Such purity deserves no substitute. The world will never witness another spirit like Ifunanya Lucy Nwangene.

“Farewell, celestial songbird. This pain is inconsolable.”
