Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé forged contrasting paths to superstardom, with fresh data highlighting stark differences in their early-career performances.

Though Yamal featured in significantly more matches (191) than Mbappé (150) before turning 20, the French prodigy displayed superior scoring instincts, netting 73 goals to Yamal’s 64.

However, the Spanish wonderkid demonstrated exceptional creativity, delivering 69 assists—far surpassing Mbappé’s 48—making their total goal contributions nearly identical (133 vs. 121).

Mbappé’s clinical edge was undeniable, averaging a goal every 136 minutes compared to Yamal’s 221. Similarly, his combined goal or assist every 82 minutes eclipsed Yamal’s 106-minute rate.

Notably, only one of Mbappé’s teenage goals came from the penalty spot, while eight of Yamal’s strikes were spot-kicks—suggesting a clearer open-play dominance from the PSG-turned-Madrid star.

Their trajectories differed, too. Mbappé exploded at Monaco, driving them to a 2016-17 Ligue 1 title before securing a World Cup with France before age 20. Yamal shattered records instead: becoming Barcelona’s youngest debutant at 15 and Spain’s most precocious international.

Despite their different roads to glory, Mbappé recently lauded Yamal’s rise, emphasizing his footballing brilliance while advising him to prioritize on-field dedication.
