Mohbad

Wunmi Adebanjo, the wife of the late music star Ilerioluwa Aloba, famously known as Mohbad, has openly disregarded the Aloba family’s demand that she cease using their surname until a court-mandated paternity test is concluded.

The directive was issued in a formal statement by Joseph Aloba, the singer’s father, and Omolayo Aloba, the family head.

“Contrary to claims, no legal or traditional marriage rites were finalized between Mohbad and Wunmi Adebanjo, as the bride price was never paid in accordance with Yoruba customs,” the statement clarified.

In defiance, Wunmi updated her Instagram story on Thursday, November 13, prominently including “Aloba” in her display name.

“Support Wunmi Aloba, because Liam Aloba deserves care,” she declared.

The family appointed three estate administrators—Ajewole Aloba, Rasaq Famuyiwa, and Alonge Aloba—to oversee Mohbad’s assets, royalties, and intellectual property pending legal proceedings.

They stipulated that if DNA results confirm Liam as Mohbad’s biological child, both he and Wunmi would be entitled to inclusion in the estate distribution.

Meanwhile, Kabir Akingbolu, Wunmi’s legal counsel, condemned the family’s restriction as baseless, asserting her constitutional right to retain the Aloba surname.

Akingbolu, handling her paternity and inheritance case, dismissed the directive as legally unenforceable, referencing a Supreme Court precedent that denies surname exclusivity.

“She remains Wunmi Aloba by right. The law permits it, and no one can strip her of that identity. The family is evading the DNA test, but we’re prepared—anytime, any day,” he emphasized.
