Nollywood star Wumi Toriola has fired back at veteran filmmaker Afeez Owo after his controversial remarks comparing her personality to that of his wife, Mide Martins.
During a recent interview on the African A-List podcast, Afeez Owo drew sharp distinctions between Wumi and Mide’s on-and-off-screen personas.
He stated, “Mide’s movie roles are a complete contrast to her real-life demeanor, whereas Wumi’s characters often mirror her fiery nature. Conflict seems to be her natural habitat.
“Wumi doesn’t hold back when provoked—she stands her ground. Meanwhile, Mide maintains remarkable composure even when wronged.”
Wumi clapped back vehemently in a since-deleted Instagram post, slamming the director’s statements.
Dismissing the interview as nonsensical, she fumed, “Must every petty issue become podcast fodder? You grab a mic and spew nonsense after they fed you pepper soup.
“Do I look unhinged? I react only when provoked. Despite your unwarranted jab, I’ve always shown you respect—more than you deserve.”
Both actresses are celebrated for their signature temperamental roles in Nigerian films.
