Malik Scott, who previously trained boxing heavyweight Deontay Wilder, has suggested that a clash between Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo would captivate the world. The former Manchester United teammates could turn a boxing match into a monumental spectacle.
Although Ronaldo, now 40, continues to shine on the field with Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, Rooney, aged 39, has hung up his boots and transitioned into coaching and punditry. Both are avid boxing enthusiasts, making the idea of a face-off even more intriguing.
Scott emphasized that such a match would significantly boost the sport’s popularity.
“A showdown between Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney would attract massive global attention to boxing, and I fully support it,” Scott shared with CanadaCasino.
“Whenever boxing gains more visibility, it’s a win. I want fans to savor the spectacle rather than overanalyze it.”
He added, “It would be a worldwide phenomenon, given the star power of these two legends. The audience they’d draw would be unprecedented.”
Rooney recently addressed his relationship with Ronaldo, dispelling rumors of tension. He expressed admiration for his former teammate, clarifying that their past on-field disputes, including the infamous 2006 World Cup incident, have not soured their bond.
