Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has shed light on why his teammate Ola Aina struggled to handle Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra in the Africa Cup of Nations final.
On February 11, 2024, Aina, known for his consistent performances throughout the tournament, encountered difficulties against Adingra.
The Nottingham Forest defender couldn’t contain Adingra, who set up both goals as Ivory Coast came from behind to defeat Nigeria 2-1 in the final.
Iwobi has since disclosed that Aina’s subpar performance was due to an injury.
“For those unaware, Ola has mentioned this in various podcasts and interviews,” Iwobi shared on Episode 2 of The Bassey and Iwobi Show.
“He played with a grade 2c hamstring injury — I’m still amazed he managed it.”
Nigeria, already qualified for the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, aims to clinch the title this time around.
