The gathering, which included five elders from every one of Benue’s 23 LGAs, took place ahead of the ADC’s formal launch in the state.

Ex-Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam has explained his choice to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), calling it a viable and well-positioned party to rejuvenate Nigeria’s opposition ahead of the 2027 polls.

During a discussion with PDP elders at Terngu Tsegba’s residence in Makurdi—chair of Benue’s National Coalition Movement Steering Committee—Suswam stated his ADC shift was motivated by the necessity for a pro-people alternative to counter the APC’s dominance.

The assembly, featuring five representatives from each of Benue’s LGAs, prepared for ADC’s official introduction in the state.

Suswam declared the ADC now serves as the people’s platform, mirroring the PDP’s earlier grassroots approach.

“Just as PDP was entrusted to local communities, the ADC is now fully owned by the people as their political vehicle,”
he affirmed.

He stressed participatory politics and rejected top-down control, encouraging leaders to let citizens engage freely in the new framework.

The former governor urged reigniting the PDP’s past dynamism and cohesion, advocating its transfer to ADC operations.

“ADC membership must remain voluntary, not forced,” Suswam emphasized.
