Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has revealed his reason for avoiding the team’s penalty shootout against Grimsby Town on Wednesday evening.
The Red Devils were knocked out of the Carabao Cup in the second round by the League Two opponents.
After regulation time, the score stood at 2-2, with Bryan Mbeumo and Harry Maguire finding the net in the latter half to pull Amorim’s side level.
A lengthy shootout ultimately saw Grimsby Town progress to the next round.
In total, 26 spot-kicks were taken during the shootout, yet Amorim showed minimal enthusiasm for watching.
When questioned about his apparent disinterest, Amorim stated: “Penalties aren’t the focus.
“Standing there hoping we win… it’s irrelevant.
“What matters are the early signals, the performance throughout the match.”
