Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has issued a heartfelt apology to fans after the Super Eagles missed out on qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Napoli forward expressed regret over the team’s inability to secure a spot in football’s grandest stage, vowing to make amends in upcoming competitions.

Osimhen shared his thoughts before Nigeria’s pivotal 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Tanzania, set to take place in Fès.

“The pressure is immense, but this AFCON campaign is our chance to redeem ourselves,” Osimhen stated in an interview with Pooja Media.
“We want to reignite the faith of our supporters worldwide. We owe them an apology—we fell short, and we take full responsibility.”

“The pain of missing the World Cup is still fresh, and we understand the frustration of our fans. But we must move forward and focus on delivering success in the AFCON,” he added.

Nigeria’s World Cup dreams were dashed following a heartbreaking playoff defeat to DR Congo last month.
