Wayne Rooney says he doesn't hate Ronaldo but Messi is a better player

Ex-England forward Wayne Rooney has clarified that he bears no grudge against Al Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.

During a candid chat on Rio Ferdinand’s podcast, Rooney reaffirmed his belief that Lionel Messi stands above Ronaldo in footballing greatness.

The two ex-Manchester United teammates lifted three Premier League trophies and a Champions League during their five-year stint together from 2004 to 2009.

“I’m a huge admirer of Messi—his style, creativity, and ability to mesmerize defenders set him apart,” Rooney admitted.
“Just because I rate Messi higher doesn’t mean I dislike Ronaldo. He remains an unstoppable scorer and an all-time great.”

Rooney experienced defeat in two Champions League finals against Messi’s Barcelona during his United days—in 2009 and 2011.
