Popular Fuji artist Abass Akande, widely recognized as Obesere, allegedly faced a violent assault from suspected hoodlums during a funeral event in Okitipupa, Ondo State.
The confrontation reportedly took place at the Government Field in Okitipupa, where Obesere and his crew were scheduled to perform for attendees.
An eyewitness, Bosede Akinyemi, recounted the terrifying scene, stating that armed troublemakers stormed the venue unannounced, launching an attack that sent guests fleeing for safety.
“The situation turned chaotic when a gang of notorious local thugs disrupted the event. They targeted Obesere and his band members while they were performing, causing complete mayhem,” she shared.
Akinyemi further revealed that the assailants struck multiple band members and caused extensive damage to high-value musical instruments.
“Several crew members were assaulted, and expensive equipment was destroyed. I barely escaped—some weren’t as lucky. Reports indicate one person suffered stab wounds while resisting the attackers,” she added.
Attempts to contact Obesere for comment remained unsuccessful.
The local government chairman, Hon. Andrew Ogunsakin, officially acknowledged the incident, condemning it as “shameful and intolerable.”
He denounced the violent behavior, emphasizing that such misconduct contradicts the principles of the Ikale community.
“Learning about the attack on Obesere and his team was deeply distressing. Such aggression is beneath our societal standards and will not be tolerated,” Ogunsakin stated.
He assured decisive action to preserve community peace, promising stricter measures to prevent similar incidents involving entertainers or visitors.
“My administration is committed to safeguarding public harmony. We are investigating thoroughly and will take appropriate steps to ensure justice and prevent future occurrences.
“I plan to personally apologize to Obesere and his team while ensuring accountability for those responsible,” he affirmed.
