Nigerian football sensation Victor Osimhen has etched his name in the record books, becoming the first player from his country to net 10 goals in the UEFA Champions League (UCL).
The 26-year-old Galatasaray striker achieved this remarkable feat by scoring the decisive goal in his team’s 1-0 victory against Liverpool at RAMS Park on September 30.
Osimhen calmly slotted home a penalty after Liverpool’s Dominic Sobozlai fouled Barış Alper Yılmaz, leaving goalkeeper Alisson Becker stranded as he guessed the wrong direction.
This historic strike propelled Osimhen past Obafemi Martins to claim the title of Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in the UCL’s main tournament, excluding qualifying rounds.
The prolific forward has now achieved another milestone by becoming the first Nigerian to score for three different clubs in the competition, having previously found the net for both Lille and Napoli.
