9ice

Renowned Nigerian artist Alexander Adegbola Akande, famously known as 9ice, has opened up about a harrowing supernatural encounter that almost claimed his life—an ordeal marked by relentless blood-vomiting for half a year, which he attributes to a malevolent spiritual assault.

During a candid conversation on The Nancy Isime Show, the ‘Gongo Aso’ hitmaker disclosed that the baffling incident, unfolding between 2009 and 2010, left medical professionals clueless until he sought answers through Ifa, the ancient Yoruba divination practice.

Host Nancy Isime probed whether 9ice had ever faced spiritual warfare in his career, prompting a startling revelation from the musician.

Urged to recount his most unforgettable experience, 9ice revealed: “There was a time I couldn’t stop vomiting blood for six straight months in my own home. It got so severe I had to abandon my house. No doctor could explain it—it wasn’t a physical illness.”

He emphasized that conventional medicine failed him entirely, and only the wisdom of a traditional healer brought his suffering to an end.

When addressing his spiritual beliefs, 9ice firmly distanced himself from Abrahamic religions, proudly embracing his Yoruba heritage as a dedicated Babalawo.

“I don’t follow Christianity or Islam—I’m a devotee of African tradition. I’m unapologetically African,”
he declared.

The artist lamented that his introduction to Ifa came only during his crisis, expressing deep regret for not discovering it sooner.

“My initiation into Ifa happened when I was fighting for my life. If only I’d known its power earlier,”
9ice reflected.

Drawing parallels to Fela Kuti’s spiritual journey, he remarked: “People ridiculed Fela for his devotion to Ogun, but now I grasp the depth of his faith.”

The singer seized the moment to rally for a cultural revival, championing African spirituality and urging his audience to reclaim their ancestral identity.

“We must stop vilifying our traditions. Our forebears were wise—it’s time we honored that legacy,”
9ice passionately concluded.
