Nollywood superstar Mercy Johnson recently opened up about the toll online rumors are taking on her family, particularly her school-aged children.
During an emotional Instagram Live session, the award-winning actress shared how malicious social media gossip has led to her kids facing harassment from classmates.
Her revelation follows recent controversy involving legal action against a TikTok user who spread damaging allegations about her marriage – claims originally circulated by blogger Cutie Juls.
In a tearful video posted to her social media, the mother of four explained how baseless accusations labeling her as a “witch” have directly impacted her family’s wellbeing.
“My children are enduring bullying because of irresponsible online posts,” shared the visibly upset star. “Some parents are even telling their kids not to interact with mine based on these fabricated stories.”
The actress issued a stern warning to online commentators, revealing that some defamatory blogs are secretly operated by industry colleagues.
“From now on, I won’t hesitate to pursue legal action against anyone spreading lies about my family,” she declared. “These reckless allegations have real-world consequences.”
Johnson emphasized her focus on family, stating: “My marriage and children are my priority. I don’t seek validation from internet trolls or compete with colleagues. Yet certain people seem obsessed with tearing us down.”
The film star also made a shocking claim about Nollywood’s underground media landscape: “Many think these blogs are independent, but some are actually run by actresses – colleagues who intentionally spread falsehoods.”
Referencing past scandals where bloggers admitted taking payments for hit pieces, Johnson vowed: “This ends now. Every false accuser will need to prove their claims in court.”
