 Mama Awero

Iconic Nollywood star Olanrewaju Hassan Adeshina, fondly called Mama Awero, has declared that acting is her lifeblood—she cannot imagine dedicating herself to any other profession.

The septuagenarian screen legend, whose journey in acting began nearly six decades ago, shared this heartfelt sentiment in a recent exclusive interview with Nations.

Mama Awero passionately affirmed that she will continue acting until her final breath.

She stated, “Acting is my destiny—I’ll breathe my last on stage or in front of the camera. Since 1964, this has been my world. Beyond acting, I mastered film costuming under the guidance of my mentors during my formative years.”

Delving deeper, the veteran actress unveiled lesser-known members of the historic Awada Keri Keri theatre troupe.

She revealed, “While many recognize me, Oga Bello, and Papi Luwe, our group included luminaries like Prince Jide Kosoko, Yomi Fash Lanso, Ronke Odusanya, Kunle Afod, Bakky Adeoye, the late Funmi Martins, and Dele Odule. These stars launched their careers with Awada Keri Keri.”

With an illustrious six-decade career that began with the Ojo Ladipo Theatre Group, Mama Awero remains a towering figure in Nigeria’s film industry.
