Nollywood powerhouse Funke Akindele recently shared an inspiring career milestone—her first ₦1 million paycheck from her iconic role as “Bisi” in the groundbreaking series I Need to Know back in 1999.

The multi-talented actress and producer took to her X platform to recount her humble beginnings in the entertainment industry, emphasizing that her rise to stardom was far from overnight.

Akindele detailed her early struggles, starting in 1996 with insignificant background roles and facing countless rejections before her persistence led to the career-defining opportunity.

“My journey began in 1996 with minor ‘waka pass’ appearances. Throughout 1997, I faced rejection after rejection at auditions,”
she revealed.

The turning point came when she secured her role in the youth-oriented series ‘I Need to Know’, which not only launched her career but also marked her first major financial success.

“That single ‘yes’ for I Need to Know changed everything—that’s how I earned my first million naira,”

Recalling how she handled her newfound wealth, Akindele credited her mother’s guidance, particularly about prioritizing her tithe before indulging in personal purchases.

“My first call was to my mom. She reminded me about spiritual responsibilities before personal rewards—so I paid my tithe first,”

“Then came the shopping spree in Yaba Market—new wardrobe, shoes, bags—everything. The girl who once struggled could finally upgrade her life.”
