Controversial Nigerian commentator Vincent Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has shared his candid thoughts following South African artist Tyla’s victory in the Best African Music Performance category at the 2026 Grammy Awards, surpassing heavyweight Nigerian contenders.

Amonpoint News previously detailed how Tyla secured the award for her viral hit ‘Push 2 Start,’ marking her second win in this category after claiming the inaugural trophy in 2024 with ‘Water.’

VDM didn’t hold back in a reaction video, expressing his discontent shortly after the announcement.

The outspoken critic admitted he would have favored a win for Davido to maintain equilibrium among Nigeria’s elite trio—Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido—since the first two are already Grammy winners.

“Tyla again? Big ups to our Nigerian stars—Davido, Burna Boy, Ayra Starr, and Wizkid. They gave it their all.

“But if I’m being real, I was rooting for Davido to level the playing field. The rivalry among their fanbases just makes it more exciting.

“Our artists delivered incredible tracks, but hey, the results speak for themselves,” he remarked.

The Grammy for Best African Music Performance has so far been exclusive to female artists.
