Tennis legend Venus Williams has etched her name in history once again.
The American star now holds the distinction of being the second-oldest woman to secure a singles victory at a WTA Tour event.
Williams claimed this milestone by defeating compatriot Peyton Stearns during the Washington Open on Tuesday.
At 45 years old, the veteran triumphed 6-3, 6-4 against the current world No. 35 in the opening round.
This win makes Williams the oldest female player to achieve a singles victory since Martina Navratilova in 2004 at age 47.
Following this success, Williams advances to the second round of the combined WTA and ATP DC Open.
The seven-time Grand Slam singles champion entered the tournament with a wildcard entry.
Prior to this comeback, Williams hadn’t competed since March 2024, having previously won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles with her sister Serena.
