VeryDarkMan altercation

United Nigeria Airlines has officially acknowledged the apologies from social media influencers Martins Otse (also known as VeryDarkMan) and Freedom Atsepoyi (popularly referred to as Mr Jollof) after their mid-air brawl erupted aboard one of its flights earlier this week.

The violent face-off, which took place during pre-takeoff procedures at Asaba International Airport, not only alarmed fellow travelers but also reignited discussions on passenger conduct and aviation security protocols in Nigeria.

In a Thursday press release, the airline confirmed it had reviewed and accepted the duo’s public mea culpa across various digital platforms.

The statement read, “United Nigeria Airlines recognizes and accepts the public expressions of regret by VeryDarkMan and Mr Jollof concerning the inflight disturbance during boarding procedures for Flight UN0523 (Asaba to Lagos) on 17 November 2025.

“Their social media pledges to uphold aviation safety standards and maintain proper decorum align with our operational values.

“We expect these commitments to translate into tangible behavioral changes, ensuring all passengers enjoy safe and dignified travel experiences.”

The carrier further emphasized ongoing collaboration with aviation authorities and industry groups to address disruptive passenger incidents across Nigeria’s air transport sector.

Graphic footage shared online captured the combatants trading punches mid-cabin, necessitating crew intervention while shocked travelers recorded the scene. Following protocol, airport security removed both individuals before departure.

The confrontation reportedly stemmed from a prolonged cyber feud dating to 2024, with VeryDarkMan previously threatening physical retaliation against Mr Jollof.

In a Tuesday Instagram post featuring visible injuries, Otse expressed contrition:

“I take complete accountability for my unacceptable actions aboard United Nigeria Airlines. This incident should never have occurred, and I deeply regret the distress caused to all affected.”

The bandaged influencer specifically addressed travelers whose schedules were disrupted, extending apologies to families and elderly passengers caught in the ordeal. While acknowledging his poor judgment, he suggested future conflicts would be avoided in public transit settings.

Atsepoyi similarly expressed remorse via Instagram, maintaining his defensive stance:

“My sincerest apologies to aviation regulators, the airline, and fellow travelers. My response was purely reactive – I’m fundamentally non-violent. To my family: this behavior won’t be repeated.”

The entertainer disclosed resorting to biting during the altercation as protective measures.
