Tyla has dominated the Best African Music Performance category since its debut in 2024, initially securing the honor with her hit single Water and now triumphing again with Push 2 Start—solidifying her status as a trailblazer in African music.

At the 2026 Grammy Awards, South African sensation Tyla claimed victory in the fiercely competitive Best African Music Performance category, outshining Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr with her chart-topping track Push 2 Start.

The category, established to amplify the global influence of African artists, saw Tyla surpass stiff competition, including Burna Boy’s Love, Davido’s With You featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, as well as Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin’s Hope & Love.

With three Nigerian stars—Burna Boy, Davido, and Ayra Starr—among the nominees, the 2026 shortlist reinforced Nigeria’s prominence in the African music scene, though Tyla’s back-to-back wins highlight her exceptional artistry and crossover appeal.

Tyla’s latest Grammy triumph solidifies her legacy as the inaugural and only two-time winner in this prestigious category, further elevating her influence on the international stage.
