Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential aide, has dismissed widely circulated images showing him in alleged meetings with former U.S. President Donald Trump and National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) chairman MC Oluomo, labeling them as manipulated.
In an official statement issued on September 24, Obi clarified that the viral photos are fabricated and do not represent reality.
He emphasized that he has had no recent engagements with Trump and has never held any discussions with MC Oluomo as suggested by the images.
His statement read: “I have become aware of misleading images circulating online, falsely indicating interactions I never participated in. One photo deceitfully presents me alongside ex-President Donald Trump with fraudulent claims of his endorsement, while another inaccurately places me in MC Oluomo’s office.
I must unequivocally clarify that these images are digitally altered, and the narratives tied to them are entirely baseless. There has been no recent encounter with Mr. Trump, nor any meeting whatsoever with MC Oluomo.
This incident underscores the growing threat of misinformation and manipulated content, designed to deceive and manipulate public perception. Nigerians and the global community must exercise caution, cross-check facts before circulating unverified claims, and reject fake news that erodes trust and credibility.
For absolute clarity, any legitimate engagements of this nature would have been officially announced via my verified social media platforms. My political commitment is to truth and accountability—not to chasing hollow publicity but to solving Nigeria’s pressing issues, including insecurity, judicial reforms, healthcare, education, and poverty reduction.
Our vision remains unwavering: a transformed Nigeria is achievable. -PO”
