In a stunning decision, Tunisia’s football governing body removed Sabri Lamouchi from his post shortly after their disastrous 5-1 defeat against Sweden, unveiling two-time Africa Cup of Nations winner Hervé Renard as his successor in a televised announcement.
The move makes Lamouchi the first head coach in World Cup history to be dismissed after managing only one game in the competition.
Renard, famous for masterminding Saudi Arabia’s historic upset against Argentina in the 2022 World Cup, recently led the French women’s national team and now steps into a high-pressure role with Tunisia’s faltering campaign.
Speaking on national television, federation president Moez Nassari confirmed Renard has signed a contract to guide Tunisia through the remainder of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Lamouchi, who assumed the coaching role only five months ago, managed a single victory in his brief tenure—a narrow 1-0 friendly win over Haiti—before the crushing defeat against Sweden.
With their hopes hanging by a thread, Tunisia now prepares for a critical Group F showdown against Japan, followed by a daunting clash against the Netherlands.
