Renowned social critic Solomon Buchi has voiced his happiness for media personality Toke Makinwa over her pregnancy news—yet he questions her spiritual framing of the announcement.
Buchi emphasizes that true faith, particularly as a “Jesus girl” or devout Christian, requires alignment with biblical principles. Scripture, he asserts, reserves parenthood for the sanctity of marriage.
To him, consciously opting for single motherhood while invoking divine justification clashes with these values.
In an Instagram video, he remarked: “I celebrate Toke’s nearing-40 pregnancy—clearly a heartfelt desire. But weaving spirituality into this narrative unsettles me. On her podcast, she framed it as a ‘deal with God,’ saying she prayed fervently for motherhood.
As believers, we must discern when we’re blending faith with personal choices—whether they align with scripture or not.
Parenthood itself isn’t ungodly, but outside marriage, attaching divine endorsement feels misplaced. Why spiritualize it? A simple ‘I chose this journey’ suffices without bending Scripture’s marital framework.
Life’s missteps happen—they don’t define us. But intentional out-of-wedlock parenthood framed as spiritual? Rejoice without involving God’s name.”
Reactions split his audience: some applaud his stance; others insist judgment belongs solely to the divine.
