Nigeria has secured the hosting rights for two prestigious African football events following President Bola Tinubu’s official endorsement during discussions with Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe.

The landmark decision was reached at the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, where Tinubu approved Nigeria as the venue for both the 48th CAF Ordinary General Assembly and the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony.

High-profile attendees at the crucial meeting included Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Nigerian Football Federation President Ibrahim Musa Gusau, former NFF chairman Amaju Pinnick (now CAF President’s Special Adviser), and CAF’s Acting General Secretary Samson Adamu.

Scheduled for October, the CAF General Assembly represents the highest decision-making body in African football, convening leaders from all 54 member associations and six regional football unions to chart the course for the continent’s football development.

Alongside this major gathering, Nigeria will welcome Africa’s football elite for the celebrated CAF Awards, honoring outstanding achievements across various categories including Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Team of the Year.
