Nigerian music star Timaya has sparked debate after openly sharing his unconventional perspective on parenting outside marriage.
The “Dem Mama” singer drew backlash when a viral clip surfaced showing him advising against traditional marriage structures while endorsing having children freely.
The controversial video features Timaya and Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) offering unorthodox relationship guidance to fellow artist Phyno.
“Just keep having kids, they’ll grow up fine. This marriage thing doesn’t work,” Timaya quipped in pidgin, provoking mixed reactions from those present.
The footage ignited heated discussions across social platforms, with many users strongly opposing the singer’s views on domestic life.
The father of four has children spread across three different partners: daughters Emmanuella and Gracey with Barbara Fumnaya Nwaokolo, son Emmanuel with Tamar, and youngest child Maya with Dunnie Onasanya.
During a recent Naija FM interview, the artist admitted his lifelong skepticism toward marital commitment hasn’t faded, though he left room for potential reconsideration.
