The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Chief, Shehu Mohammed, has issued a stern warning to celebrities and influencers who flout traffic laws, calling out their dangerous antics that jeopardize public safety. His statement comes after viral footage surfaced of a well-known TikTok personality, Habeeb Hamzat (aka Peller), broadcasting live while driving—an incident linked to an ensuing car crash.
In an official release signed by FRSC spokesperson Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed condemned the act as both illegal and life-threatening, stressing that no one is above traffic regulations. He emphasized that distracted driving, including live streaming or recording behind the wheel, breaches traffic laws and endangers everyone on the road.
“This reckless behavior undermines our national road safety campaigns,” Mohammed stated, directing the Lagos FRSC unit to prosecute the offending influencer for “phone use while driving, reckless operation, and distracted driving under applicable traffic laws.”
The Corps Marshal pressed entertainment industry associations and influencer networks to hold their members accountable, noting that celebrities shape youth behavior and must lead by example. “They should champion safety, not recklessness,” he declared, vowing zero tolerance for violators regardless of status.
“No online fame justifies risking lives,” Mohammed asserted, clarifying that roads are not content-creation zones but regulated spaces where laws protect all users. He urged citizens to report reckless driving and collaborate with the FRSC to foster safer highways, reiterating that road safety is a collective duty demanding compliance from all.
