On June 9, workers performing a standard check on a river filtration grid stumbled upon the grisly scene. Forensic experts identified the victim using her tattoos, notably one inscribed with “Paula Sophia” on her back, as reported by Panamericana.
The investigation faced challenges due to the fragmented and scattered nature of the remains. Key parts of her body, such as her head, arms, and one leg, remain unaccounted for.
Fabiola had moved from Venezuela to Peru as a teenager to reside with her former partner, Meiner Jimenez Castillo. After Castillo’s suicide in 2022, his family allegedly held Fabiola responsible, as stated by La República.
While authorities explore homicide and human trafficking angles, no suspects have been named. Peruvian officials have remained tight-lipped about potential motives or leads in the ongoing probe.
