Renowned writer and vocal social commentator Solomon Buchi has slammed the BET Awards for crowning American rapper GloRilla as Best Gospel Artist, calling the decision shocking and misplaced.
The controversial win came during last weekend’s star-studded ceremony, where the hip-hop artist unexpectedly triumphed in the gospel category.
In a fiery critique, Buchi blasted the selection, emphasizing that collaborating with a gospel performer doesn’t suddenly make GloRilla a gospel singer. His scathing take-down questioned her eligibility, pointing to her bold, revealing outfits and provocative performances as evidence that she shouldn’t be classified as a gospel artist.
“Since when do half-naked, profanity-spewing pop stars qualify for gospel accolades?” Buchi lashed out. “This embarrassing oversight exposes the industry’s hypocrisy—gospel music lost its way the moment it stopped being about ministry and became just another commercial gimmick.”
