Renowned artist Gabriel Oche Amanyi, better known as Terry G, has opened up about his stance on musicians performing at political gatherings.
Terry G emphasized that his appearances at political events don’t imply an alliance with any political faction.
He made these remarks during a candid conversation on The Real Shareholders podcast.
The singer asserted that it’s unjust for fans to criticize him merely for performing at political functions when he hasn’t openly supported any party or candidate.
He explained, “Artists are often booked to perform. Given the economic climate, landing a gig from a political party is a privilege. So, credit to them.
“But as a musician, I’m just doing my job—I’m neutral. I attended political events solely to perform. Fans should evaluate me based on my words, not my presence.
“Criticizing me for doing my job isn’t fair. If I had campaigned for a party, that’d be a different matter. I performed like any other artist. Why is my case singled out?”
Notably, Terry G faced online criticism after performing at President Bola Tinubu’s pre-inauguration concert in Abuja back in May 2023.
Later, in November 2023, he accused the APC of withholding payment for his performance, alleging that certain individuals diverted his earnings.
