Pressure is mounting in Group C of Africa’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers, where Nigeria is grouped, as Lesotho considers lodging a formal complaint against South Africa.
Mokhosi Mohapi, the LFA Secretary-General, confirmed this development.
Mohapi has cautioned South Africa against selecting Teboho Mokoena for their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifier on Friday.
The fixture, scheduled for Match Day 7, will take place at the Free State Stadium.
Mokoena has been embroiled in controversy ever since South Africa’s 2-0 victory over the underdogs earlier this year.
The Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder received two yellow cards, which should have rendered him ineligible for the match against Lesotho—yet he still played.
According to FIFA regulations, South Africa would face a three-point deduction if the opposing team files a protest within 24 hours of the game’s conclusion.
“If South Africa dares to field Teboho Mokoena, we will file a protest and explain our reasons,” Mohapi stated on Soccer Beat.
“We will submit a protest referencing the previous match because he never served the suspension he was supposed to.”
“Against Bafana, we will wait three minutes into the game before lodging our protest.”
