Nigerian songstress Tems (born Temilade Openiyi) recently shared her nerves while performing at the grand unveiling of the Obama Presidential Centre in Chicago. The emotionally charged moment unfolded during her heartfelt dedication speech.
Taking to Instagram, the acclaimed vocalist confessed she unintentionally misspoke when referencing former First Daughter Malia Obama, a slip she attributes to overwhelming stage jitters. Clad in a striking crimson gown, Tems expressed her gratitude to attendees, extending special acknowledgment to President Barack Obama, Michelle Obama, and mistakenly, “Sandra.”
Her post-performance apology highlighted her vulnerability, requesting grace for the nervous flub. The historic ceremony at John Lewis_kimg_ Plaza celebrated the $850 million complex’s completion before its June 19 public debut.
The star-studded lineup included icons like Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, and Nigerian-American painter Njideka Akunyili Crosby, whose artwork graces the center—showcasing Nigerian creativity on a global stage.
