Nigerian superstar Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has shattered records by becoming the first African woman to secure seven placements on the prestigious U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart.
The Grammy-winning artist achieved this milestone as her track ‘What You Need’ made a surprising debut at No. 93, marking her seventh entry on the coveted chart.
With this achievement, Tems now stands shoulder-to-shoulder with fellow Nigerian icon Burna Boy and South African rock band Seether, each holding seven Billboard Hot 100 appearances.
Tems previously etched her name in history in 2022 when she became the first African artist to debut atop the Billboard Hot 100 with her chart-topping collaboration ‘Wait For U,’ featuring Future and Drake.
The record-breaking artist is expected to extend her lead soon, as her upcoming feature on J. Cole’s ‘Bunce Road Blues,’ alongside Future, is projected to debut on next week’s chart.
