Nigerian music sensation Temilade Openiyi, globally celebrated as Tems, added another milestone to her illustrious career at Billboard’s debut Global Power Players Event. Held at London’s chic Shoreditch House, the star-studded evening saw the Grammy-winning artist honored alongside music legends like Sir Elton John and EMPIRE’s visionary CEO, Ghazi Shami.
Tems was bestowed with the prestigious Diamond Award, presented by Billboard Africa’s incoming editor, Nkosiyati Khumalo. The recognition highlights her groundbreaking influence in reshaping the global music landscape.
“As an African artist, breaking barriers in the music industry has been an incredible journey,” Tems shared in her heartfelt acceptance speech. “Billboard has played a pivotal role in amplifying African sounds and culture, and I’m honored to be part of this historic moment as our music reaches unprecedented heights.”
The event also saw Sir Elton John receiving the Creators’ Champion Award, while Ghazi Shami was celebrated with the Clive Davis Visionary Award—presented by Nigerian rap icon and YNBL label founder, Olamide.
Adding to the excitement, Billboard unveiled its inaugural U.K Power Players chart, spotlighting industry trailblazers. Tems continues to dominate as the most-awarded African artist in Billboard’s history, following her groundbreaking recognition at last year’s Women In Music Event—where she became the first Nigerian woman to be honored.
