The installation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland was met with mixed reactions after a performance by Taye Currency sparked outrage among attendees and online commentators.
The historic event, held at Mapo Hall, celebrated the ascension of Oba Ladoja following the passing of the previous Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, two months prior.
During his set, Taye Currency sang the lyric “were la fi n wo were,” which translates to “we used madness to cure madness,” immediately drawing sharp criticism across social media platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter).
The backlash propelled the Fuji artist to the top of trending lists, with many questioning the appropriateness of the song choice for such a prestigious occasion.
Dignitaries present included President Bola Tinubu, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and several traditional rulers such as the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oluwo of Iwo, and Alaafin of Oyo.
