Authorities in Ogun State have apprehended an individual linked to the tragic passing of rising music star Adesina Afeez, popularly known as Destiny Boy.
The State Police Command confirmed that the investigation has been escalated to the homicide division of the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough examination.
In an official statement released Monday, police spokesperson Babaseyi Oluseyi disclosed, “The Ogun State Police Command has initiated a comprehensive probe into the untimely demise of 22-year-old artist Adesina Afeez, alias Destiny Boy.
“The case file has been forwarded to SCID’s homicide unit for meticulous scrutiny. Our custody currently holds one person of interest as detectives continue their inquiries.”
Shocking reports of the young musician’s passing emerged Sunday when graphic footage showing his remains being transported to a morgue went viral across social platforms, triggering an outpouring of sorrow and conjecture about the circumstances.
Disturbing clips depicted the entertainer’s lifeless form in a vehicle’s rear compartment, with medical cotton stuffed in his facial orifices.
A purported acquaintance later surfaced in another video attempting to dispel rumors, claiming the performer had been privately combating an undisclosed medical condition.
“I’m making this recording to prevent misinformation about Destiny Boy’s passing. Each soul writes its own destiny. May he rest in peace. He’d been struggling with health complications before his demise. We exhausted all options, but his time had come,” the unidentified individual stated.
Originally named Afeez Adeshina, the budding artist cultivated his musical talents early, developing a distinctive fusion of Fuji rhythms. His professional journey commenced at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he initially supported Fuji icon Pasuma as a background dancer.
His breakthrough arrived in 2019 with a viral Fuji rendition of Davido’s chart-topper “If,” which catapulted him into social media fame. Subsequent reinterpretations of tracks by Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor further cemented his reputation.
Among his notable releases were “Lamba,” “One Transaction,” “Gbese,” “Billion Dollar,” “Mio Gbonkankan,” and “Lowkey.”
The late musician and his companion Iremide celebrated the birth of their first child just months prior in November 2024.
Police officials assured the public of forthcoming updates as their investigative work progresses.
