Super Eagles skipper Wilfred Ndidi is mourning the tragic loss of his father, Sunday Ndidi.
The retired army officer died on Tuesday following a fatal auto crash in Umunede, Delta State. After the accident, he was swiftly transported to a hospital in Agbor but succumbed to his injuries.
Ndidi’s Turkish club, Besiktas, publicly shared the heartbreaking news alongside a condolence message on social media.
In a post on X, the club expressed grief over the passing of their midfielder’s father, writing: “We are deeply saddened by the loss. May Allah grant the departed eternal peace. Our thoughts and prayers are with Wilfred Ndidi, his family, and loved ones during this painful time.”
Ndidi, who recently succeeded William Troost-Ekong as Nigeria’s national team captain, led the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. He also netted his debut international goal during the tournament.
In a previous interview, the midfielder had shared heartfelt admiration for his late father and legendary Nigerian footballer Kanu Nwankwo, even dedicating one of his goal celebrations to them.
