Super Eagles skipper William Troost-Ekong has cemented his status as a Nigerian sports icon after sweeping two prestigious honors at the Nigerian UK Sports Awards (NUKSA) ceremony.
The commanding center-back clinched the Best Performance in a Major International Competition Award following his stellar displays at AFCON 2023, where he dominated defenses and earned tournament MVP honors while leading Nigeria to the final.
His second award, the Philanthropy & Humanitarian recognition, celebrates his transformative work through the Troost-Ekong Foundation. The initiative has empowered countless Nigerian youth through educational scholarships, sports programs, and community development projects.
Troost-Ekong’s influence extends beyond traditional football boundaries. As a pioneer investor in eco-conscious footwear brand Sokito, he’s driving sustainable innovation in sports, while his upcoming podcast Power and Purpose – launching September 25 – will unite elite athletes to discuss leadership across disciplines.
The podcast, co-hosted with rugby star Maro Itoje and broadcaster Leon Mann, will offer unprecedented access into the minds of championship-winning captains. Fans can follow @wtroostekong for updates.
“These awards represent more than personal achievement,” Troost-Ekong reflected. “They symbolize our collective mission to create opportunities and inspire the next generation through sports and education.”
NUKSA organizers highlighted how Troost-Ekong’s multidimensional impact – combining elite athletic performance, social entrepreneurship, and environmental advocacy – sets a new standard for sports leadership in Africa.
With his foundation expanding its reach, Sokito gaining international traction, and his media ventures launching, Troost-Ekong continues redefining what it means to be a modern football legend – equally influential on the pitch and in the community.
