Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has refuted claims that the Nigerian national team is requesting additional bonuses ahead of their pivotal 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Gabon.
Taking to X, Troost-Ekong clarified that the squad has not introduced any new financial demands but is instead seeking the payment of overdue bonuses and allowances owed to players since 2019.
“Once this matter is resolved, we will be the first to announce it. Any suggestions of special bonus demands beyond what’s outlined below are completely false. Our sole focus remains on preparing for the crucial matches ahead,” he emphasized.
Once resolution is found we will be the first to confirm.
Any other statement/claim or eSPECIALly demands other than the rightful request written about below is FALSE.
All we want and continue to do is focus on the big games ahead. https://t.co/093Naixfl3

Reports indicate that discussions around playoff bonuses were initiated by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) prior to the team’s arrival in Morocco, not by the players themselves.
Insiders reveal that the squad’s priority is settling outstanding payments rather than negotiating new incentives.
With preparations in full swing, all 24 players—including stars like Victor Osimhen and Maduka Okoye—have joined the camp in Rabat ahead of Thursday’s high-stakes clash.
Head coach Eric Chelle, reportedly awaiting two months of unpaid wages, has yet to address the situation publicly.
