Sunday Oliseh

Ex-Super Eagles captain and former coach Sunday Oliseh has openly praised Eric Chelle, the current head coach of Nigeria’s national team, despite recent setbacks.

Chelle’s hopes of securing a 2026 FIFA World Cup spot for the Super Eagles were dashed after a dramatic 4-3 penalty loss to the Democratic Republic of Congo in the African playoffs final.

This marked Chelle’s first defeat since taking charge of the squad, sparking mixed reactions among fans and analysts.

While many have criticized the team’s failure to qualify, Oliseh has emerged as a vocal supporter of the Malian tactician.

“Initially, I wasn’t convinced by his appointment, but I have to admit—he’s won me over,” Oliseh shared on his podcast.

“He’s brought fresh energy, made significant progress, and achieved better results than his immediate predecessors.”

Chelle now shifts focus to preparing the Super Eagles for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to kick off in December.
