Ahead of Sunday’s high-stakes Premier League showdown, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola heaped praise on Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, admitting he enjoys studying their tactics. “Absolutely,” Guardiola affirmed when asked if he admired Arsenal’s style. “There’s real pressure from fans and pundits, but I find their approach fascinating. I always pick up new insights when analyzing their games.”

While acknowledging the title race intensity, Guardiola emphasized, “Competing at this level is about hunger—and Arsenal’s 22-year league drought is a factor. They bring something unique, and I recognize that hunger from my early days here. Before us, Pellegrini and Mancini delivered titles, but the first triumph for a new era carries extra weight.”

The City manager also stressed tactics over rivalry: “We must focus on our system—that’s non-negotiable.” City heads into the clash buoyed by February’s 2-0 Carabao Cup final win against Arsenal, though their September league encounter ended in a tense Emirates draw.

Guardiola suggested a City loss could effectively end their title bid despite six remaining fixtures, while defending Arteta’s controversial strategies. Since leaving Guardiola’s coaching staff in 2019, Arteta has engineered Arsenal’s resurgence—though critics highlight their reliance on set-pieces (37% of 62 league goals) and just two open-play goals in five matches.
