Nigerian music sensation Oludipe David, widely known as Spyro, recently revealed a deeply personal struggle that shaped his early life.

In an emotional revelation, the artist admitted he once believed poverty would define his destiny.

Opening up about his past, Spyro detailed how his father’s harsh criticisms fueled a crippling fear of failure during his formative years.

The “Who Is Your Guy” hitmaker recounted how constant discouragement from his father led him to internalize feelings of inadequacy.

Spyro described battling academic challenges in secondary school and even questioning whether he could complete his university education due to overwhelming self-doubt.

During a revealing conversation with media personality Frank Edoho, the artist shared his darkest moments: “I genuinely believed I’d die in poverty. My father’s constant reminders of my supposed failures created this persistent fear of never succeeding.”

The musician credited his spiritual journey with helping him overcome these deep-seated fears.

Interestingly, Spyro nearly abandoned his musical aspirations, having already transitioned into interior design before his career-defining 2022 hit propelled him to fame.

His breakthrough track “Who Is Your Guy” became a cultural phenomenon, with the 2023 Tiwa Savage remix cementing his place in the industry.

The song’s success was further validated when it clinched the Best Collaboration award at the prestigious 16th Headies Awards.
