Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, and his wife, Dr. Nonye Soludo, have outrightly dismissed an alleged apology linked to Senator Uche Ekwunife, branding it as “another baseless fabrication.”
The dispute stems from Ekwunife’s previous remarks, where she reportedly accused the governor’s wife of infidelity during her campaign as the All Progressives Congress (APC) deputy governorship candidate in Anambra’s gubernatorial race.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by Mazi Ejimofor Opara, the governor’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, the couple rejected the purported apology, calling it dubious and unsigned. The statement, titled ‘Sen. Ekwunife’s Alleged Apology: A Desperate Fabrication,’ questioned the legitimacy of the apology, noting that it was attributed to a non-existent “Ekwunife Campaign Organization.”
Opara stressed that since Ekwunife’s candidacy was part of a joint ticket with the APC’s governorship nominee, no such campaign body exists, making the apology highly questionable.
“The so-called apology fails to address the defamatory video and audio recordings directly attributed to Senator Ekwunife,” the statement highlighted. “A genuine retraction must come from her personally, delivered with the same publicity as her initial accusations.”
The governor’s office reiterated that any sincere apology must acknowledge Ekwunife’s original statements rather than vaguely referencing an unsigned document, which they claim only reinforces suspicion rather than remorse.
The statement further recalled Dr. Nonye Soludo’s earlier challenge to Ekwunife: to take a sacred oath before the Blessed Sacrament verifying her marital fidelity and to undergo a DNA test for her children alongside the Soludo family—demands that remain unmet.
“Slanderous claims require a direct and unequivocal retraction,” Opara asserted. “No surrogate statement can absolve the senator of accountability for her words.”
Dismissing the latest development as “another unfounded rumor circulating online,” the Soludo administration declared the matter unresolved and insisted on a formal retraction from Ekwunife herself before any reconciliation can be considered.
