Bovi

Popular Nigerian comedian Bovi Ugboma has called out the Super Eagles for their lack of focus during their AFCON semi-final defeat against Morocco, attributing the loss to distractions and misplaced priorities.

The Super Eagles were eliminated after a 4-2 penalty shootout loss to the tournament hosts, dashing hopes of securing Nigeria’s fourth AFCON title.

In a candid video, Bovi criticized the players for being swayed by social media hype, fan adulation, and financial disputes, which he claimed overshadowed their commitment to the national team.

He emphasized the unifying power of football in Nigeria and urged players to prioritize national pride over personal gains.

“Football is the heartbeat of Nigeria’s unity. To every Super Eagles player—current and future—remember that when you wear that jersey, you carry the hopes of millions. The NFF’s shortcomings shouldn’t dictate your passion,” Bovi stated.

While expressing sympathy for Samuel Chukwueze’s missed penalty, he stressed that players must recognize the immense responsibility they bear.

“If you chase fame before victory, you’ll end up empty-handed. The Super Eagles jersey demands sacrifice. If unpaid bonuses or social media noise distract you, then maybe this isn’t your calling.”

He concluded with a blunt assessment: “Fans don’t love you—they love what you represent. Don’t confuse admiration with loyalty.”
