Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, opened up about her love for Nigeria while acknowledging the challenges driving many citizens to seek opportunities abroad. The award-winning singer emphasized the country’s irreplaceable energy, which she says defines its people.

The “Joromi” hitmaker admitted that despite her patriotism, she longs for a more functional Nigeria—one where citizens wouldn’t feel compelled to emigrate in large numbers.

During an appearance on The 90s Baby Show, Simi shared, “What I cherish most about Nigeria is the indomitable spirit of Nigerians. It’s something no one else can imitate.

“You can’t fake being Nigerian. Even in Hollywood movies, they mimic other African accents but never ours—because it’s too distinct, too authentic.

“Nigeria feels like home, no matter where I go. That’s why it hurts to see things fall apart. If our systems worked, people wouldn’t feel forced to leave.”
