Afrobeat artist Seun Kuti has fired back at superstar Wizkid following a heated Instagram outburst where the acclaimed singer lashed out over comparisons to the legendary Fela Kuti.
This clash erupted after Wizkid took to social media, boldly asserting he had surpassed Fela’s status while directing personal jabs at Seun.
In a fiery Instagram story, Wizkid typed: “Weakling @bigbirdkuti yeah I’m greater than your father!! Whatchu gonna do?
“Old fool @bigbirdkuti I’m The Big Wiz – always topping your pops!! What’s your move loser? Broke nobody.”
Responding calmly yet firmly, Seun acknowledged the viral nature of their feud while standing his ground on preserving his father’s monumental legacy.
He replied: “Your champion has spoken. Aha. We’ll conclude tomorrow. Day 7. Thought he’d stay quiet?
“They’ve disappointed you all. Just embrace who you are small fry. You’re talented too.”
The tension originated when Seun dismissed parallels between Wizkid’s stardom and his father’s revolutionary impact, stating that claims of Wizkid outshining Fela grossly underestimate the latter’s sociopolitical influence.
He emphasized that Fela’s contributions transcended musical achievements, encompassing decades of activism against oppression.
Seun also chastised Wizkid’s supporters for constantly dragging Fela’s name into fan wars, labeling such behavior as disgraceful to the Afrobeat pioneer’s memory.
The musician argued that measuring historical significance against contemporary chart success reflects a shallow understanding of cultural impact.
