Kunle Kuti, son of Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, has expressed dismay over the ongoing social media clash between superstar Wizkid and his brother, Seun Kuti.
The dispute erupted after Seun called out Wizkid’s supporters for drawing parallels between the ‘Essence’ crooner and their late father, insisting such comparisons disrespect Fela’s musical impact.
During an appearance on TheCable’s ‘Our Two Kobo’ show, Kunle Kuti emphasized that contrasting Wizkid’s artistry with his father’s was inappropriate, calling them distinct creative forces.
“These are two completely separate musical entities that shouldn’t be compared,” he stated firmly.
Visibly emotional, Kunle confessed the public spat deeply affected him, revealing his personal admiration for Wizkid. He shared how he’d actively sought to connect with the Grammy-winning artist, particularly moved by Wizkid’s visible tribute to Fela.
“This situation truly pains me. Wizkid remains the only musician I’ve ever requested to meet personally throughout my life.
“Just last Sunday, I reached out through Sunday Are hoping to connect with him. That’s how much I respect him – especially seeing him honor my father with permanent ink when we, his own children, haven’t,” Kunle revealed.
“Wizkid is the only artiste I’ve ever begged to meet, I had to beg Sunday Are to meet him. He has Fela tattoo on his arm, even we his sons don’t have his tattoo on us”
