Renowned Nigerian music producer Samklef has stirred controversy by alleging that superstar Davido is responsible for fostering negativity and unhealthy competition in the country’s music scene.
The producer voiced his opinion in response to a tweet by Pheelz, another industry figure, who lamented the growing culture of comparisons and toxicity in Nigerian music.
“Music was meant to unite, not divide. This endless comparison is eroding the essence of our art,” Pheelz tweeted.
Samklef countered by claiming the industry was once harmonious, citing the era when Wizkid and Olamide dominated without friction—until Davido’s emergence allegedly changed the dynamics.
He accused Davido of introducing a “gangster mentality,” manipulation of streaming numbers, and underhanded tactics that disrupted the industry’s peace.
According to Samklef, music should be about creativity, not cutthroat rivalry.
He posted, “Back in the day, music was pure joy. Wizkid’s rise brought no drama—just appreciation.
“Olamide followed, same energy. No envy, no sabotage—just good vibes.
“Then came Davido, and everything shifted. Suddenly, it was about numbers, threats, and shady schemes.”
Remember when music was about passion?
Wizkid’s era was all love.
Olamide’s time? Pure respect.
Then Davido stepped in, and the game turned ugly.

The statement divided fans, with many criticizing Samklef for unfairly targeting Davido as the sole cause of industry issues.
As of now, Davido has not publicly addressed the accusations.
