Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah has etched his name in history once again, securing his third Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) men’s Player of the Year award after claiming the 2025 honor.
The Egyptian icon has become the first player ever to win the prestigious PFA award three times, further cementing his legacy in football.
At 33, Salah played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s triumphant season, topping the league’s scoring charts with 29 goals and contributing 18 assists. His stellar performances also earned him the Premier League Player of the Season and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year accolades.
Reflecting on his rise from humble beginnings in Egypt, Salah shared his journey with humility.
“Of course, I dreamed of becoming a footballer, but my early aspirations were simple—to support my family. Growing up, your vision expands, and bigger ambitions take shape,” he revealed.
Salah outpaced stiff competition, including Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.
In the youth category, Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers claimed the PFA Young Player of the Year title. The 23-year-old, signed from Middlesbrough in early 2024, thrived under Unai Emery, netting 14 goals in 54 appearances as Villa secured sixth place in the league and made deep runs in European and domestic cup competitions.
Rogers, who earned his first senior England call-up last year, aims to emulate legends like Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney.
“I aspire to be remembered among the greats. This recognition motivates me, but there’s much more to achieve,” he told BBC Sport.
Elsewhere, Burnley’s James Trafford was named Championship Player of the Year after recording 29 clean sheets, while Richard Kone (League One) and Michael Cheek (League Two) took home honors in England’s lower tiers.
Former England boss Gareth Southgate was honored with the PFA Merit Award for his eight-year tenure, guiding the national team to two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final.
The PFA Team of the Year featured a strong Liverpool and Arsenal presence, with Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch representing the champions. Arsenal’s Declan Rice, William Saliba, and Gabriel also made the cut, alongside surprise inclusions like Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood, goalkeeper Matz Sels, Newcastle’s Isak, and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.
